Racism Alive

Despite major accomplishments that would have an optimist like myself
believe that racism for the most part has been conquered, incidents like
this are a sobering reminder that we as a society have a long way to
go.

Scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. Historian and director of the W.E.B. Du
Bois institute for African American research at Harvard University was
arrested after trying to get into his own home.

Henry Louis Gates Jr. lives on Harvard University campus. The police
responded to a call at 12: 45pm which reported two black men with book
bags breaking into a home. When the police arrives they found Dr. Gates
already in his home, asked for ID. Dr. Gates presented both his Harvard
identification card and his Massachusetts Driver's license, and
explained that the door was jammed. When the police arrived he was on
the phone reporting the problem with the door.

Dr. Gates was arrested. If the police arrived and found a white man who
provided a drivers license and a Harvard University Identification card
and explained the situation ..do you think they would have been arrested
the way Dr. Gates was?

FYI in 2004 on the same campus an African American professor who had
taught Neuroscience for 25 years was stopped and arrested after police
confused him with a robbery suspect -____- I do not understand how you
confuse a seasoned Harvard Neuroscience professor with a robbery
suspect....

Let me know what you think about this, personally I'm shocked and
dissapppointed

Talk to soon!!!
