Carter G. Woodson

Opening up my Black History Month Blogs, I would like to acknowledge Mr. Carter G Woodson. After all if it was not for Carter G Woodson we wouldn't even have Black History Month.

Carter G Woodson was born in 1875 in Virginia. He was the son of two former enslaved parents. Carter recognized early on that the history and life struggle of the African American was ignored. This inspired Carter to start the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. He also began the Journal of Negro History.

In 1926, Woodson began the celebration of "Negro History Week", he planned this week to coincide with marking Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass's birthdays. The week was later extended to the entire month [give us an inch ;)] and renamed Black History Month.

Carter G Woodson, was an amazing leader and thanks to him we now have Black History month :) *claps for Carter G Woodson*

Talk to you soon!!!
