Real On the Skinny

America is well known as one of the fattest nations. Many people in America struggle with their weight. America is also well known for their beauty concious residents. Recently I have been hearing a lot of buzz terms being associated with losing weight. Some of these terms include "getting in shape, feeling great, and *my favorite* being healthy". It is no secret that generally thin is regarded as more attractive than fat or "bigger". Especially, as far as pop culture is concerned, many people are going to extreme lengths to lose weight and to have a particular body shape.

Many people like to support or reinforce their efforts and cosmetic pursuits with reasoning such as they want to lose weight because their current weight is not healthy or that they will live a better life as a skinnier person because people are not meant to be over weight. Some would even go to the length of saying that they are abusing their bodies by being overweight. While some of this may be true to a certain extent I persoally believe that 98% of most peoples reason for losing weight has to do with personal preference, and a goal to look a certain way.

I hear so many people saying that they want to lose weight because it is healthier. I also hear many more people condemnming others who are overweight.. and when these people are asked why they do not approve of someone elses body size they most common response is that "it's not even so much how they look .. it's that its not healthy" >_> Now not that I am saying people generally do not care about others I am just saying that I believe that in most of these cases the person being critical of another's weight has a bias towards overweight people that is rooted in how people look and not at all in how healthy they are.

Since when do people in high school care about how healthy they are??? psssh if people really cared about how healthy they were they would not be eating so much meat, and high school students would spend their money on organic food and natural clothes not the latest flyest fads.

Bottom line is that in most cases people are losing weight to fulfill cosmetic desires and not to be more healthy. Also in most cases people are judged for being overweight because of beauty standards not because of how unhealthy others see them. Pssh if that were the case models and party people would be abhorred everywhere.

If people want to lose weight in order to look better then they should just be real about it and stop fronting as if they are health fanatics all of a sudden. For those that pass judgment and say mean things about people who are overweight.... they need to work on their inner beauty!!

Talk to you soon!!!
